Vishwakarma Institute

and training that maximizes the knowledge
and skills and makes the students

Pune City
Pune city has been recognized as the
cultural capital of Maharashtra and
emerged as a prominent educational
center in India. It has a long history
of over 1000 years or more. After
independence in 1947,it has developed
into and industrial city with effective
communication systems with India's
economic capital, Mumbai (180 kms.

Pune City, lying between 180
90' North latitude and 730 53' East longitude
has an area of about 43.18 sq. miles with
a population of 3.5 million as per the
census of 1999. It is situated 660 m above
the sea level. The old Pune city and the
cantonment area are situated on the right
bank of Mutha river. The extension of
left bank area is beautifully developed
as Decan Gymkhana, well known for educational
institutes.

The climate of Pune is equable
and except for a short spell in summer,
it is pleasant and temperate throughout
the year (around 220 C). The average rainfall
is 26"-30" (60-65 cm.). The monsoon
season spreads over for 3 months i.e. from
June to September. |

The population of Pune has been increased
from 2.5 million in 1991 to 3.5 million
at present. It is administered by Pune Municipal
Corporation covering an area of about 400
kms.

Pune has large population
of students studying in numerous schools,
colleges and institutes. Over 15,000 industrial
firms are generating lucrative jobs for
thousands of workers. In addition, Pune
is emerging as a flourishing IT City with
C-Dac, softwaqre Parks and Education to
Home Projects. Pune has a mature chamber
of Commerce and Flourishing stock exchange.
