Introduction
 
Vishwakarma Institute of Technology (Vishwakarma Institute of Technology) is located in the city of Pune (Poona) in the State of Maharashtra. It is a self-financing private institute of great repute and is run by Bansilal Ramnath Agarwal Charitable Trust, Pune.
It is recognized by the Government of Maharashtra and approved by All India Council for technical Education, (AICTE), New Delhi, and is affiliated to University of Pune. Its five eligible programs have been accredited by National Board of Accreditation (NBA) - All India Council for Technical Education, New Delhi. The Institute provides education and training that maximizes the knowledge and skills and makes the students capable of competing confidently in the global workspace.
About Pune City
Pune city has been recognized as the cultural capital of Maharashtra and emerged as a prominent educational center in India. It has a long history of over 1000 years or more. After independence in 1947,it has developed into and industrial city with effective communication systems with India's economic capital, Mumbai (180 kms. Away), and other parts of the world.
The notable industrialists viz. Kirloskars, Bajaj, firodias, Tatas, Birlas etc. have spread their industrial campuses in and around Pune. Pune is also well known for its exemplary developments in other fields such as education, social reforms, arts & crafts, research , languages, literature as well as defence, science and technology. In the 21st century, it is emerging as 'IT City'. In short, Pune city has a glorious past, enviable present and promising future.

The Geographical Settings
Pune City, lying between 180 90' North latitude and 730 53' East longitude has an area of about 43.18 sq. miles with a population of 3.5 million as per the census of 1999. It is situated 660 m above the sea level. The old Pune city and the cantonment area are situated on the right bank of Mutha river. The extension of left bank area is beautifully developed as Decan Gymkhana, well known for educational institutes.

Climate
The climate of Pune is equable and except for a short spell in summer, it is pleasant and temperate throughout the year (around 220 C). The average rainfall is 26"-30" (60-65 cm.). The monsoon season spreads over for 3 months i.e. from June to September.
Urbanisation
The population of Pune has been increased from 2.5 million in 1991 to 3.5 million at present. It is administered by Pune Municipal Corporation covering an area of about 400 kms.
Changing & Flourishing Pune
Pune has large population of students studying in numerous schools, colleges and institutes. Over 15,000 industrial firms are generating lucrative jobs for thousands of workers. In addition, Pune is emerging as a flourishing IT City with C-Dac, softwaqre Parks and Education to Home Projects. Pune has a mature chamber of Commerce and Flourishing stock exchange. Pune represents a rare blend of tradition and modernity.
In nutshell, Pune has achieved an important place in the socio-economic and political map of India. It maintains its tradition of high quality education right from 18th century and now is world over recognized as one of the major cities imparting "Quality education".
 
Maharashtra State
The State of Maharashtra is situated in the Western part of India, consisting of narrow Konkan Coast backed up by ranges of Sahyadri Hills of the Western Ghats and the eastern part spreading over the Deccan plateau. Geographical area of the state is over 3,00,000 square kilometers (area ranking third in India).
 
Mumbai (Bombay), the commercial capital of India, is the capital city of the State; Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Goa are the immediate neighboring States. The State is renowned all over the world owing to the work of saints like Saint Dnyaneshwar, Saint Ramdas, Saint Tukaram, Saint Namdeo and personalities like Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, the Peshwas, Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak, Veer Savarkar, etc. It is a state blessed with a very peaceful environment and communal harmony, which is conducive to industrial and educational developments. In the entire country, Maharashtra State is also well known for its industries .

There are a large number of historically important places like old temples, forts and world famous heritage places like Ajanta- Ellora Caves, Gharapuri Caves and numerous tourist places, hill stations and beaches.
