Mechanical Engineering envisages the development, design, manufacturing and maintenance of machinery. The present age demands Mechanical Engineering specialists who have the capacity of adaptability and creativity in the new technical areas. Mechanical Engineers should have knowledge not only in their own specialized fields but also in wide interdisciplinary fields as well. To meet the above requirements Mechanical Engineering department offers the UG course in Mechanical Engineering and post graduate courses in Heat Power Engineering and Design Engineering.
Vishwakarma Institute of Technology started undergraduate course in Mechanical Engineering in 1986 and postgraduate course in 1996. The Doctoral Program in Mechanical Engineering has been introduced from the academic year 2005-06. The department has well qualified and dedicated faculty and is known for its high academic standard, well-maintained discipline and complete infrastructure facilities.
The Department has Center of Excellence in the field of (i) Energy & Environmental Studies (ii) Computer Aided Design & Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAD/CAM).
The Department has maintained a good rapport with Industry and R & D organizations. The Department has students’ chapter of SAE .

Engineering Sciences Department established in 2005 as a separate dept. from the Department of Civil Engineering comprising Civil, Mathematics and Physics which was established in the year 1984.

Department provides an encouraging environment to develop the intellectual capacity, critical thinking, creativity, and problem solving ability of its students so that they may become contributing and forward-thinking members of the science and engineering community.

Department aims at serving the people by integrating education, research, public service, and economic development through emphasis on science, engineering, and natural resources.

Department is committed to serving the needs of various branches of engineering by fostering an effective teaching/learning environment and offering students an academic experience of “thinking, learning, and doing.” The staff members are very enthusiastic, dynamic and committed towards all the activities the department undertakes.

The globalization and modernization in the world demands ‘interdisciplinary approach’ and everybody must have a minimum basic knowledge of all disciplines. Department is taking more focused and multidimensional efforts to make the ‘foundation’ of the students as strong as possible! Department promote a conducive environment for scholarly and creative activities so that new knowledge or solutions to problems are discovered or created; and to provide science education to all students so that they may be equipped to succeed in the modern world.

Senior staff members have publication of papers and text books to their credit. They are closely associated with first year students for counseling, admission work, Curricular, Co and Extracurricular activities, TEQIP activities etc.

                Other specific responsibilities are:
