‘As Albert Einstein aptly remarked, “Education is not the learning of facts, but the training of the mind to think.” My college journey perfectly encapsulates this sentiment. Embarking on my journey within the Department of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering at VIT, we follow a curriculum where the range of subjects extends beyond mere theoretical concepts. It strongly emphasised hands-on experiences, equipping me with practical skills crucial for the ever-evolving engineering field. Engaging in research projects each semester has been a pivotal aspect of my academic pursuit, providing a unique opportunity to explore the latest technological advancements while contributing meaningfully to societal progress. The culmination of these projects, resulting in the publication of multiple research papers, has left a tangible mark on my academic journey. Regular opportunities to present my work and gain constructive feedback from industry experts have refined my technical understanding and broadened my professional vision. Beyond technical proficiency, the department’s unwavering support has undoubtedly played a significant role in cultivating my interpersonal skills. With deep gratitude, I extend my appreciation to the department and the institute for consistently exposing me to a diverse range of academic and other activities, thus opening my eyes to many opportunities.

For me, the Electronics and Telecommunication department at our institution has been a life-changing experience since the department not only provides theoretical information but also a practical, project-centric approach that closes the knowledge gap between industry and academics. My comprehension of complex subjects has significantly improved as a result of the emphasis on hands-on learning through a variety of projects. During my formative years in the Department of Electronics and Telecommunication, I participated in various hackathons. I was even successful in winning one of the prestigious state-level IoT competitions and signing an MoU for the same project in collaboration with Smart QR Technologies. Not only this, but the department also encourages and supports us for paper and patent publications as part of our academics. During my third year, I had the opportunity to work on a government-aided sponsored project under the Central Water and Power Research Station (CWPRS), Pune organisation.

It has served as the perfect means of pursuing a good job and higher studies by fortifying our base in the most robust way possible. The fantastic ranking of this prolific institution is proof enough that the Department of Electronics and Telecommunication has lived up to the image of an ideal engineering place. The friendly environment goes a long way in making Vishwakarma Institute of Technology an easy institute to get acclimated to. The good-natured teachers do a brilliant job of immersing the students in the pool of their knowledge. Ezekiel said, “Home is where one must gather grace.” Well, Vishwakarma Institute of Technology is our home then.

My years in the Department of Electronics and Telecommunication have transformed me a lot, both as a student and as a person. Our college has given me just the right amount of support to excel in academics and gain exposure to various other disciplines. As a student, I was able to manage various committees at our college fest, Melange, and other such cultural events. I also attended a conference of the Harvard Project for Asian and International Relations (HPAIR) held in the Philippines and a Design and Innovation Workshop hosted by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. As part of the curriculum, students also have the option of learning a new language and taking up subjects outside their fields as a ‘major or a minor’. One of the biggest advantages of being in the Department of Electronics and Telecommunication is that the summer break is long enough to complete an internship, which is one of the most valuable experiences for undergraduate students. Having a continuous assessment system, college keeps us on our toes, and that is what makes us systematic and disciplined in our academics.

The Department of Electronics and Telecommunication has provided a good platform for my daughter to increase her ability not only technically but also in other activities. Seeking recognition for events like TEDx and then organising such events involve extreme interface with the outside world, which provides a lot of confidence to the child and prepares them to deal with the vagaries which would exist once they graduate. The department has also been very receptive whenever she has attended external programmes and seminars, which not only helps the student but also creates goodwill for the institution based on the child’s participation.
